in connection with merchandise or promotional items for sale or distribution.Ĭan I include them in a product I create for a client? Not sure what you mean by cover, but you may not use any image for print on physical items e.g. Yes, and actually you should be editing them, or using them to create your own derivative work. To answer your questions: Am I allowed to edit them? You can find our Terms of Service for TechSmith Assets here: For some people, it will be expensive but to claim that the price should be set to match their personal budget is like claiming that Ferrari should sell cars for $500 because the current price "is a lot of money". Compared to most stock libraries, the price isn't disproportionate. It's the same as any other product on the market. If it doesn't (and for me, at present, it doesn't since I currently don't need that much stock content), you don't. Annoyingly, to me at least, this seems to completely disregard the fact that the people who create those things also need to eat and put a roof over their heads. What it comes down to is that if the assets have $199 / year worth of value to you (and for people who create a lot of diverse content, they can), then you buy it. There's an increasing expectation that "things on the web" should be if not free, at least at a minuscule cost. A 12 month subscription on Shutterstock will set you back a minimum of $348.Īnd people expect Techsmith to pay that kind of cost for them so that they can have "all you can eat" for a one off, lifetime payment of $199? A 12 month subscription on Storyblocks is $149 for images only. They are essentially sub-licencing them from other library sites like Storyblocks and Shutterstock and therefore paying those other sites for them. The thing that doesn't seem to be clearly understood is that for the overwhelming majority of these assets. Also, you won't find a decent sized media library, ANYWHERE, that will give you lifetime carte blanche to thousands of assets for a one off payment of $199. Make it $199 for a lifetime and it's guaranteed that they will. Make it $99 / year and Techsmith will probably lose money on the deal. In the future? I wouldn't rule it out.Ĭonsidering that this is an "all you can eat" deal out of a collection of about 400K assets (not the biggest collection on the web but hardly small), it's not awful value for heavy users of stock content. I expect that Techsmith still plans to make money on the deal but I don't think it'll be huge, gouging money.Īlso, you don't HAVE to pay the fee every year if you don't need the assets that year. And the ones that you have downloaded in previous years, you can keep using subject to the terms and conditions.Īm I planning to sign on? Probably not at this stage because I need only a limited amount of stock content, much of which I already have and the rest of which is unlikely to cost me that much per year, so I'll still be better off going elsewhere. You could get similar assets from other libraries (iStock, Shutterstock, Getty, Storyblocks, at least two of which are behind this collection) but I doubt that you'd end up paying LESS per asset that way, unless you used very few of the assets. The extra cost is for new and improved assets, many of which are externally sourced from existing libraries and therefore come at a cost to TechSmith. They aren't taking anything away from you. you DO still get the usual set of assets plus a few more. I highly recommend "AOMEI Backupper Pro", $50 USD (for 2 installs), but so easy to use.To be fair. If none of this helps, you may have to clone your C-drive to a larger capacity one. For example, you can change the default locations"Documents", "Downloads", "Photos", "Videos", "Music", and "Pictures" from their current locations to your D-drive. If you have a second drive (D-Drive?) You can also change where Microsoft saves things much easier than TechSmith data. That alone can save many, many gigabytes. First, run "Disk Cleanup", choose "System Cleanup" if you haven't done that for a while.
